Max is a 6 year old, AKC, papered, German Shepherd. Max lived his life in an out door pen for 5 years, occasionally taken in during the night. At times he was allowed to roam the yard without supervision. During one of those times a contractor approached the yard and Max defended his yard and territory, no one was injured.

Due to the Family moving they decided that since Max was territorial it was better to euthanize him. He was posted on social media as a last resort to, potentially, safe his life. A woman, with shepherd experience, stepped up to the plate and took Max in. Max is, slowly, learning to be an inside dog, which he seems to like, very much. The woman takes Max for long walks, daily, and he enjoys it. He loves to play with toys and have a Kong to chew. Max has been known to get under the covers and snuggle with his people. He just wants to be with you since it is allowed to happen, now. Max can, also, be trusted to free roam the house and not have an accident while left unattended but is crate trained, which, is not his favorite.

The woman has had Max evaluated by a trainer due to the stresses in the home with several other dogs and the need to keep the dogs separated from each other. The trainer's conclusion is that Max has a shepherd's typical high energy and or anxiety with some panting and pacing. He seemed to be more comfortable with other dogs while outside than inside. He did bare teeth and react to other dogs. Max's doesn't seem interested in making new doggie friends at the moment. Max needs proper and controlled socializing, training and building his confidence along with giving him the time he needs to figure out the change.

At the moment, Max would be best suited in a home as the one and only, shining star! Max would thrive best with someone that knows Shepherd behavior, quirks and needs.  Max does know basic commands and gives a firm handshake, people are his friends, for sure. If you'd be interested in adopting Max please fill out the application. The interview for Max will be very thorough and in depth. We want to ensure everything fits well together for a happy future!
