MEET VERA! Vera is an adorable tri-color (smooth) collie mix. Estimated at a year old, she is 31 pounds, the perfect size for just about anyone (although she could stand to gain a few pounds). Vera is very affectionate and playful. She gets along great with other dogs and enjoys her cat friends. She would do fine with kids 6 and over, merely due to her gentle jumping skills. Vera is an angel in her crate; she appreciates getting a treat to go in and then sleeps all night, quiet as a mouse. She is also perfectly happy to be in her crate when you leave the house--although she does like to tell the story about the time when her foster parents forgot to lock her crate when they left. And what did she do with her freedom? Absolutely nothing. She was a very good girl. Vera is also a wonderful coworker. She has some playful puppy energy first thing in the morning and then settles into her dog bed and lets you get to work. Vera knows "sit" and is working on other basic commands. She does get excited and will jump to meet people, but she is making strides in learning to sit and wait for her pets and scritches. Vera is also getting used to the leash. She will try to back out of a regular collar, so a harness is a must--at least until she gets used to walking on a leash. Vera wants to be among people, so she isn't really trying to escape. She came to us after a life on the run, so she needs time to learn to trust her person and realize that the leash is her friend. Simply put: Vera is a medium-energy dog who will be an excellent pet for one very lucky family. Vera is up to date on her vet care, heartworm negative and on prevention. Hhpr.rescuegroups.org for the application. $300 adoption fee.
